100000 more could die in Syria - Brahimi

Arab League and UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi is warning another 100,000 people could be killed in the next year if fighting in Syria between the government and rebels does not end.
Brahimi’s comments, from the an Arab League meeting in Cairo on Sunday, come as rebels intensify their efforts around the airport in Damascus.

Meanwhile, the army is trying the take control of the restive city of Homs and claims to have occupied the neighbourhood of Deir Baalbeh, seizing a number of weapons.
Homs is where the uprising began 22 months ago. Located in the west and Syria’s third largest city, it is strategically important.

At least 500,000 Syrians are now registered as refugees with the UN.A camp in Akcakale in southeastern Turkey is a temporary home to some who have fled and a large crowd greeted Turkey’s prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a visit on Sunday.Telling the refugees to regard Turkey as their “second home”, Erdogan also spoke of their struggles.“Every sacred birth is painful, and now Syria is preparing for a second sacred birth through which the will of all Syrian people will take power,” he said.During a visit to Moscow on Friday, Brahimi said neighbouring Lebanon and Jordan would not be able to handles another 100,000 refugees.
